ECC (Thailand) began operations in 1984 and quickly became Thailand's largest chain of language and computer training schools. In 1996, it spun its translation services off into Translation Xpress, which quickly gained a significant share of the local market.

By 1997, an increasing amount of Translation Xpress' business came as subcontracts from overseas vendors; new staff were hired and a new translation only offices in the central Bangkok was opened.

Always ahead of the technology curve, from the beginning we stood out among the clutter of general translation agencies in Bangkok with their in-house only "all-purpose" translators, lack of DTP capabilities, lack of computerization, and absence of QA procedures.

By 1998, we had tested over 4000 contract translators in their specialised fields, redesigned our database to include foreign currency transactions, automated project status, reports, and 80 + fields of information on our contractors. As we gained experience, in large (over 500,000 words) projects, our team of editors gained more project management experience and further QA procedures were put in place.
